Dog Birthday Cake Homemade Recipes

2023-01-17

We all know our paw friends love to receive treats and plenty of love so the best way to convey your love for your dog might be – baking! That is right, dogs of all ages enjoy baked delights and we decided to start with one of our most-loved recipes. A brief word of caution – while these foods are considered generally safe for dogs please consult your veteran about the ingredients and if your dog might have a bad reaction to any of them.

Let's get cooking now!

Spoiled Dog Cake Recipe

This particular cake includes the best of the dog culinary world - peanut butter, applesauce, and pumpkin. The cake can be eaten by humans too but keep in mind that it does not include any sugar so you will not enjoy it as much as your furry pet.

You will need the following ingredients for the cake:

1 cup flour

1 egg

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/8 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup natural peanut butter (Do NOT use peanut butter with Xylitol as it's dangerous to dogs. Remember to check the packaging of your peanut butter!)

1/2 cup applesauce (we recommend plain, unsweetened)

1/2 cup pumpkin puree make sure you use pure pumpkin (do not use canned pumpkin pie mix as it might have additives)

You will need the following ingredients for the frosting:

1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt

1/4 cup peanut butter

Let's start cooking!

You will need to preheat your oven to 350 F (that is 175 C).

Combine the flour and the baking soda in a large bowl.

In a separate bowl mix together the vegetable oil, the applesauce, the peanut butter, and the pumpkin puree. Once the ingredients are properly mixed add the egg and mix until the texture is homogeneous.

Take the dry mix of flour and soda and pour it into the bow with the wet mix and start stirring. The mixture should look nice and soft.

Pour your mixture into an 8 inches/20 cm round pan (a square pan can also be used) that has been greased with oil.

Bake for approximately 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the cake springs back when pressed lightly.

Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack before removing it from the pan.

After the cake has cooled you can move on to adding frosting which can be made rather easily.

Lets make the frosting!

Mix Greek yogurt and peanut butter until well combined.

Spread the mixture over the cake with a spatula.

Note: The cake might look a bit dull so you have a few options. You can sprinkle small dog-shaped treats on top or you can grind a carrot and use it as chocolate chips to cover the cake. If your dog will not be receiving the cake anytime soon, you can put the cake in the fridge.

Rosemary Dog Doughnuts

These donuts are very easy and quick to make at home. You can change your dog’s usual treats by using these donuts. The list of ingredients is short and these treats do not include any dyes or preservatives. Please, do not give human-grade doughnuts made with white flour and lots of sugar to your paw companion. Sugar and additives in human-grade donuts can cause significant digestion issues for your dog. A great advantage of these rosemary donuts is that you can switch the rosemary with other dog-friendly herbs like oregano, parsley, and basil.

You will need to use a Doughnut Pan and a frosting bag for this recipe. If you do not have a doughnut pan you could pour the batter on cookie sheets. If you do not have a frosting bag in your kitchen, you can make one at home easily using a zip-lock bag. Spoon the batter into the bag and snip off the corner so you have a hole that is not bigger than a penny. You should be ready to pipe away now.

The ingredients that you will need are:

1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour

1/2 cup of olive oil

1 egg

2 medium sprigs of fresh rosemary

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons water

1/4 cup cream cheese

Let's start cooking!

You will have to preheat the oven to 350 F/175 C.

Take the rosemary and strip the leaves from the stems.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the flour, egg, olive oil, and half of the rosemary. Mix the ingredients well.

Add in the ¼ cup of water and mix well again. If you think your mixture is too thick, add a tablespoon more water at a time until you reach the desired texture of the mix.

Place the batter in a frosting bag and evenly distribute it among each of the doughnut cavities in your pan. Alternatively, pour the batter onto cookie sheets and do not worry too much about the shapes. Your dog will be busy savoring the taste much more than appreciating your sculpting ability.

Bake the batter in your oven for 13 minutes.

Let the doughnuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then move them to a cooling rack to finish cooling for another 15 minutes.

Let's make the frosting!

Place the cream cheese in a small bowl and microwave for 20 seconds then stir well.

Add the 2 tablespoons of water and stir until combined into a smooth texture.

Dip half of the doughnut body in the cream cheese and sprinkle with the leftover rosemary.

Note: The doughnuts can be put in the fridge and should be good for eating at least for one week.

Carrot and Apple Doggie Cake with Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Frosting

This cake is great for special occasions and it is relatively easy to prepare. You will not need more than fifteen minutes for mixing the cake and you will need about 25 minutes to bake the cake in the oven. You can make one cake that is 8 inches/20 cm wide or two small ones that are 4 inches/10 cm wide.

The ingredients that you will need for the cake are:

1 medium-sized carrot (you will need to grate it to serve as sprinkles for the cake)

1 large apple (we will need to boil half of it and a quarter of the apple will be chopped into fine pieces)

1 large egg

35 grams of oats (the brand is of no particular importance but make sure it does not include any added sugar)

35 grams of rice flour (if you can’t find any just use whole wheat flour)

1/8 cup of vegetable oil

1/8 tsp of baking powder

1/8 tsp of baking soda

1 slice (10 grams) of smoked turkey (make it finely chopped)

The ingredients for the frosting are:

55 grams of cream cheese

40 grams of peanut butter

25 grams of Greek yogurt

Let's start cooking!

Boil half of the large apple with the skin on, with enough water to cover it. You can determine if it is properly boiled when the apple becomes soft to the touch. You can use a spoon to press the apple. About 20 minutes should be enough for the apple to be boiled.

Once boiled, remove the pulp and discard the skin. Mash the pulp with a fork.

Put all the ingredients listed above in a bowl along with the mashed apple and mix with a fork. (The ingredients for the frosting are prepared separately.)

Line a baking tin (8 inches/20 cm wide or two tins at half size) with baking paper and pour out the batter into the tin.

Make sure to preheat the oven to 355 F/180 C.

Place the baking tin into your preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. You can determine that the cake is cooked by inserting a toothpick in the center of the cake, if it comes out clean that means you can stop baking it.

Let's do the frosting now!

Mix the cream cheese, peanut butter, and yogurt with a spoon to prepare the frosting for the cake. The frosting should be smooth and fluffy.

Decorate the cake by spreading the frosting over the top and the sides, use a spatula or a big spoon if you do not own a spatula.

Sprinkle the grated carrots on top.

The ingredients that you will need for the cake are:

1 cup of brown rice flour

1 cup of organic pumpkin puree (do not use pumpkin pie mix, regular and plain puree only is required)

1 tablespoon of cinnamon

1/2 cup of coconut oil, melted (check the package, it should not include additives)

3 tablespoons of honey

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1/4 cup of water

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

You will need these ingredients for the frosting:

2 bananas, you will need to mash them

1 tablespoon of all-natural peanut butter (make sure it does not include Xylitol which is harmful to dogs!)

3/4 cup of unsweetened shredded coconut

Let's start cooking!

Mix the flour, cinnamon, and baking soda in a large bowl.

Add the pumpkin puree, coconut oil, honey, water, and vanilla to your mixture.

Mix well and then add the apple cider vinegar.

Pour the mixture into your prepared pan and bake for about 50-60 minutes.

Allow the cake to cool off for 20-25 minutes.

Let's make the frosting now.

Put all ingredients together in a large bowl and stir well. That is it!

Use a large spoon or a spatula to spread the frosting over the cake.

Use the unsweetened shredded coconut as sprinkles and don’t be modest with the amount.
